Fall is a fantastic time of year for sensory activities. Kids learn most effectively by taking the world in through their senses. These experiences are the most powerful and have the most lasting impact. An old Chinese proverb sums it up best: I hear and I forget. I see and I remember. I do and I understand.



Making Toasted Pumpkin Seeds  is a tradition my sons and I started years ago in the days between Halloween and Thanksgiving. It turns out toasted pumpkin seeds have terrific nutritional value. They have magnesium to strengthen our bones. They're also packed with fiber and protein to make us feel full and satisfied. Enjoy!


1. Assemble the ingredients: a pumpkin, salt, and vegetable oil.


2. Cut the top off a large pumpkin and scoop out the seeds with a large spoon.



 3. Wash the seeds in a colander.



4. Dry them overnight on paper towels.



5. Heat 1/4 cup vegetable oil in frying pan. Fry seeds until golden brown.



6. Drain seeds on paper towels.

6. Sprinkle seeds with salt, eat, and enjoy!

If you want your kids to experience a sweet sensation, combine some sugar and cinnamon and sprinkle on seeds. Yum!
