Five Little Snowmen Fat: A Preschool Poem for the Holidays

There's so much for families to do during the holidays -- visiting Santa, making cookies, shopping for presents, singing carols, and decorating the tree. But, don't let the hustle and bustle of the season make you forget to do the smaller traditions that really mean a lot. When my sons were younger, they loved to recite the poem, Five Little Snowmen Fat. It taught them about rhyming words, promoted their phonological awareness, and helped them learn how to count backward from 5 to 1. They'd hold up their little hands and sadly lower a finger as one-by-one the snowmen melted to the ground. They were so proud of knowing this poem that they'd perform it for their grandparents and friends. Here's how it goes:

Five little snowmen fat,
Each with a funny hat,
Out came the sun
and melted one,
What a sad thing was that!
Aaaaaaaah

Four little snowmen fat,
Each with a funny hat,
Out came the sun
and melted one,
What a sad thing was that!
Aaaaaaaah

Three little snowmen fat,
Each with a funny hat,
Out came the sun
and melted one,
What a sad thing was that!
Aaaaaaaah

Two little snowmen fat,
Each with a funny hat,
Out came the sun
and melted one,
What a sad thing was that!
Aaaaaaaah

One little snowmen fat,
Each with a funny hat,
Out came the sun
and melted one,
What a sad thing was that!
Aaaaaaaah

This wordless book is a modern classic and a must-have for your home library. It tells the tale of a snowman that comes alive in a boy's dream. It's pure magic!
